Welcome to YIG season delegates! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Olivia Mancheski-Thompson and I am this year’s Chief Justice. I am a senior at Southern Door High School, and I cannot express how excited, yet saddened, I am to kick off my third and final year of Youth In Government as your Chief Justice. I was elected last year, and I was beyond excited and humbled to accept the position. As Chief Justice, I will help lead deliberations, craft responses to the cases at hand, and oversee our final Judicial Review case at the end of the Model Government weekend. Being in Youth in Government has truly been one of my best decisions. It sounds cliché to say that you will gain new friendships that will last a lifetime and become more confident with public speaking, but it is completely accurate! My first year of YIG, I was the only one from the Door County delegation in the Supreme Court. It didn’t take me long to warm up to my new Supreme Court family, and I am still friends with some of the first people that talked to me that first day. From falling down the stairs of the capital and breaking my purse (most embarrassing moment of my life) to becoming your 2016-2017 Chief Justice, I have made memories that will last a lifetime.
Welcome back to YIG season everyone! I hope you have a great school year and hope to see you all at our 2017 Model Government session.
